5 Questions About PRP
1. What Is PRP?
PRP stands for Platelet Rich Plasma. The process involves taking blood, spinning it in a specialised centrifuge machine to separate the blood into its three main components, red blood cells, plasma, and platelets. The Platelet Rich Plasma is then extracted from the blood, and re-injected into areas which are to be treated.
2.How can PRP help?
The Platelet Rich Plasma has a high concentration of growth factors. When injected into the skin this will help to speed up recovery of injuries or scar tissues, and can also help to regenerate areas and renew the skin, helping to treat scars, wrinkles, and stretch marks. PRP treatments can help for individual scars and wrinkles, or used for a whole facial treatment to rejuvenate the skin. At Cosmos Clinic Gold Coast we have a process known as Harvest PRP, this increases the amount of growth factors in the injection over regular PRP processes. In average blood, the concentration of platelets is about 200,000 per micro liter, using our Harvest PRP technique, the amount of platelets increases to over 2 million per micro liter.
PRP is also used to treat hair loss/thinning hair in both men and women.
3. Does PRP hurt?
The taking of the blood itself feels the same as a regular blood test. The injection may cause some discomfort if it is being injected into scar tissue, as this is already a sensitive area. For wrinkles, scars or stretch marks, the discomfort is only minimal.
4. Are there any side effects with PRP?
As PRP uses only your own blood, it is a completely natural treatment. You will get no allergic reactions or rejection. There may be some bruising if injected to scar tissue.
5. Will I get any scarring?
No, you will get no scarring whatsoever from a PRP procedure.
